Last year the Smith Center for Community Advancement relaunched our annual Peace Walk into the Take A Stand March with the purpose of highlighting the need for increased activism and community vigilance on our community as well as honor the memory of Jeniel Smith a beloved relative who was also a community activist, social worker, multi talented artist and a very hard working Black Woman. It was a good start however there was room for improvement with the results. Fast forward to this year and the city is still under siege if not worse. Reports in the news featuring more lives being lost in the most brutal of fashion and the tragedies grow closer and closer to home.
So we are pushing the Take A Stand Chicago Campaign even harder this year and we are also going to challenge the rest of our supporters to do the same. And what we mean by taking a stand is not just on one level or even a one time thing. In order to make a difference we need to be consistent and serious in our approach and our support!
